About this Item
Four volumes of poetry by John B Meredith, held together in a chemise. The first volume is illustrated by Florence Thorpe. A scarce work. Being : Fragments of Descriptive Verse Written Principally When Away From Home Presented as a Small Memento of a Golden Wedding' (1902), 'Fragments of Descriptive Verse Part III' (1903), 'Fragments of Descriptive Verse Supplement' (1911) and 'Fragments of Descriptive Verse Supplement II' (1914). Prior owner's monogram stamp to the recto of front endpaper to several volumes and to the front wrap of the first volume. First volume is held in the original glassine wrap. A charming poetry collection written by this Victorian author. Each poem has the original dates, which are typically the late nineteenth century. Several of the poems purport to be written 'away from home' and describe many experiences in Italy, Egypt, Niagra, Columbo and more. Part III has several verses on nature and every day objects. Supplement I states to the preface 'I cannot add much more to my verses already written, therefore the six following themes as a supplement will bring my Volumes of 'Fragments of Descriptive Verse' to a conclusion. The second supplement has several poems already published separately in 1912-13. Three volumes in the original cloth bindings, and one volume in the original paper wraps. The works are housed in a cloth covered chemise. Externally, generally smart. Loss to the spines from rubbing. Minor chips to the glassine wrap. Closed tear to the flyleaves of the glassine wrap. Prior owner's stamp to the front wrap of the first volume of 'Fragments'. Chemise is generally smart, with the cloth to the spine starting to fray and lift slightly. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to the extremities. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 639L13
