Original publisher's brown cloth binding. Gilt decoration showing a coal miner on front cover. Embossed black decorative text and decorations on front cover. Gilt lettering on spine. 5 1/4" x 7 1/2." 378 pages, complete. Former ownership inscription on front free endpaper handwritten in black ink: "To Christie from his Mama. March 25th/80." Slight foxing on edges. Light occasional foxing on pages. Slight chipping at the head and tail of spine. Pages and covers of book are otherwise very clean and intact. Joints strong. Binding is tight. Mary Abigail Roe (1839-1920) was an American novelist who was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. Her pseudonym is C. M. Cornwall. This book is a pro-management labor novel set in the coal region of Pennsylvania. Referenced in Wright III, no. 4629.
