Full calf, original covers, later rebacked in lighter calf, smooth spine divided into six panels by blind rules, modern leather label to second panel, date to foot. Corners bumped and worn with loss to leather, new endpapers. Title with closed tear and water stained, text lightly browned and often lightly stained throughout, but never too obtrusive. The first English edition of Menon's influential 'La Cuisinière Bourgeoise'. Bitting, page 554; Cagle 872; Maclean, page 101; Oxford pages 121-122; Simon BG 714; Wellcome IV:112 (in a note about the fourth edition). Four locations in ESTC in the UK, with ten in the US and one other Size: 8vo.
