First English language edition of this work, preceded by the original Norwegian edition of 1941. An account of Nansen's extraordinary life and career as explorer, diplomat, and ice skater. Including descriptions of his voyages and explorations, in particular the famous 'Farthest North' dangerous voyage to the North Pole which marked the beginning of modern day exploration. Written by Per Vogt.Featuring numerous black and white photographic illustrations in text as well as a coloured frontispiece and ten full page plates of drawings, two of which in colour, and a map. Some illustrations by Nansen himself. Collated, complete.With unclipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full calf binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear, lightly marked to rear board. Dust wrapper unclipped and smart with minor chipping to extremities, occasional minor spot, age toning to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine.
