First produced on Broadway in 1928, The Front Page remains one of the most influential American newspaper dramas of the twentieth century. The play inspired several film adaptations, most notably Howard Hawks's classic His Girl Friday (1940) starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. Its fast-paced dialogue and sharp satire of the newspaper profession helped define the modern screwball comedy tradition.
