While his early writing was heavily influenced by Marx and Freud, he later turned towards religious and spiritual inspiration. During his time at Oxford, Auden played a central role in the "Oxford Group" or "Auden Generation", along with fellow writers Stephen Spender, C. Day Lewis, and Louis MacNeice. Condition: Original red cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Binding remains square and tight in near fine condition. Spots of light foxing to top edge. Text block is clean throughout, uncut edges. Neat dedication in pencil to front paste down. Original wrapper is edge worn, spine nicked but remains bright. With one 5mm closed tear to rear jacket edge. Not price-clipped (6s net to the front flap).� Size: 225 x 145 mm.
