Primary book in the "Dick & Jane" series of readers, beloved by those who grew up with them, now long out of use in the curriculum, but providing insights into reading instruction in mid-20th-century America. Designed as a Primer, this volume continued to feature the familiar characters: Dick, Jane, Sally, & their parents & pets, along with some new friends, though the books remained completely white, middle class, & centered on nuclear families. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1962, in 160 pages, illustrated throughout, this hardcover has bright yellow cloth-covered boards colorfully decorated on front cover. Condition is VG- (minus): overall quite clean & bright, with random small soiled spots to both boards. Interior is completely unmarked save for former owner's name in pen & a bookplate to ffep; light soiling to outside fore edge side of text block. Exterior shows modest rubbing to extremities & light corner bumping. No DJ, as issued (never came with one).
