The first edition was in 1737. This revised edition contains a new frontispiece representing the intended front of the new Mansion House, London, and a complete table of contents. 84 plates, folding plate of 5 columns, and many diagrams within the text. The book discusses the five orders of architecture, designs for truss roofs, staircases, twisted rails etc. Full leather, of which the boards are contemporary, with a new spine, unobtrusively repaired corners, and endpapers. Last leaf contains the Finis and advertisements for other building books by Bettesworth and one on music. Leather only a little scuffed. Plate 1 is torn at outer edge with no loss of content. 4 other plates and 2 text pages are repaired with small strips of paper tape with no loss of content. The folding plate is almost half way torn along the fold and also creased. It looks as if, as it became looser from use, that the top and bottom of the folding part have been trimmed (no loss of text or line) to ensure it did not stray outside the text block.
