1st edition. Original purple printed paper wrappers, 8vo, 16 pages ; 20 cm. In German with occasional Hebrew quotations, translated into German. Singerman 2346. Title translates as, "How and What Should the Sermon be preached, and how should the sermon be heard? : Two Sermons." "von Dr. M. Mielziner, Rabbiner der Gemeinde Anshi Chesed.Gehalten am 10. und am 17. Februar 5632, in der Norfolk Street Synagoge in New-York." Moses Mielziner (1828 - 1903) was president of Hebrew Union College and an "American Reform rabbi and author.In 1848.he entered the University of Berlin. He remained there until 1852, when Samuel Holdheim, who took a great interest in him, recommended him to Waren in Mecklenburg as teacher and preacher. The Orthodox reaction introduced by the â Landrabbiner' Baruch Isaac Lipschütz in 1853 forced Mielziner, much to the regret of his congregation, to resign his position." in 1865 "he was called to the rabbinate of the Congregation Anshe Chesed in New York ("New Yorker Staats-Zeitung," 1865, No. 215). When this congregation was absorbed by the Beth-El congregation, he opened a private school, which he conducted until 1879, when he received a call as professor of Talmud and rabbinical literature from the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati.
