GERED MANKOWITZ: 50 YEARS OF ROCK AND ROLL PHOTOGRAPHY

Gered Mankowitz created the enduring and defining image of the rock star as we know it today. Inspired to take up photography by the comedian Peter Sellers, Mankowitz opened his first studio in 1963 and soon established himself as one of the most prominent music photographers on the music scene. Here in one volume are his most striking and iconic images from the 1960s to the 2000s, encompassing everyone from the Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull, and Jimi Hendrix to Led Zeppelin, the Eurythmics, Kate Bush, Oasis, and a virtual hall of fame of superstars. Record industry insider and author Brian Southall supplies incisive background text, while Mankowitz recounts anecdotes of his 50 years behind the lens. Introduced by Peter York and complete with forewords by music legends Annie Lennox, Keith Richards, and Bill Wyman, this is the most extensive and varied collection of Gered Mankowitzs work ever published.

Gered Mankowitz is one of the most important music photographers in the history of recorded music.  Brian Southall worked for Melody Maker and Disc in the 1960s, before pursuing a 30-year career in the record business working for A&M, Tamla Motown, EMI, and Warner Music.
