First edition (with publisher's requisite statement upon copyright page) along with "Hampton Edition . . . Limited and Signed" leaf tipped-in before half-title page and indeed SIGNED BY ARCHIBALD RUTLEDGE. 159 pages plus b/w plates. Hardcover: H 24.25cm x L 16.5cm. Lacks dust jacket other than edge-worn rear flap which is now laid-in at book's rear endpapers. Green cloth with gilt stamping still fairly bright, mild discolored spotting to front board, strong discoloration lengthwise along fore-edge area of rear board with light mottling at bottom, light scuffing at spine ends with heel bumped. Deckle fore-edge. Edges and endpapers toned; non-authorial 1947 Christmas gift inscription upon front free endpaper. A good+ copy. B/w frontispiece plus concluding section of 28 b/w plates on unpaged leaves all featuring images by photographer Noble Bretzman. {Shelf #2}.
