Reviews
The first American golfer put stick to ball on Feb. 22, 1888 and since that time the game has burgeoned to include hundreds of courses and hundreds of thousands of players. This handsome volume, written principally by the editors of Golf magazine, pays tribute to that growth. Every conceivable aspect of the sport is covered: there is a brief historic overview, a look at amateur and professional champions, articles on the courses and their designers, on the best players of each decade (women are included from 1938), on the chroniclers of the game, the equipment. Also here are a compilation of the winners of major championships and a ranking of the world's top 100 courses. In addition, there are almost 500 illustrations, many in color. It's a lavish production. BOMC dividend selection; GolfSmart Book Club selection.
