This book offers ten-page summaries on periods, styles, and movements that have animated Western art since Giotto. The text is not bad but is super-summary in nature, with 600 inferior-to-worse teenie-weenie illustrations, some comparative timelines, potted 50-word biographies, an omissive list of 26 great museums, and an absurd two-page glossary. Although it has been well translated from the Italian original, this is still not a satisfactory purchase for libraries; use H.W. Janson's History of Art or other similar survey for better pictures and fuller text and context.
