LEARN more about : Capropygia unistriata, Banda Deep, Ingolf Expedition, crustaceans, flying-fox, translucent, Spirula spirula, Rennell Island, Pulo Kondul, Little Nicobar, double sphere, and decoy birds. The field work described here was done in 1950 - 1952. B/W fold-out map at back shows the oceanic regions explored. Ischnomesus on page 193 is one example of the b/w drawings. INDEX at back. Cond : Boards are blue with silver gilt lettering at spine. White end-papers. Clipped dust jacket is reddy black with white lettering. Fish with a gaping mouth is cover illustration. Volume is tight, bright, square, and clean. No names nor marks. D.J. has lots of edge wear and minor soiling. Excellent reference volume for many strange sea creatures. QUote (p. 49) : ._._. with the characteristic bilobed form. The unripe nut is found, when cut open, to contain a greyish-white, gelatinous endosperm, which gradually hardens from the outside.
