Not dated but circa1880. Presumed first edition (following Nisbet's practice of dating subsequent editions and printings). Lovely late Victorian pictorial cloth boards depicting schoolboy in cricket gear reading on a chair (on front) and schoolboy with book under arm (on spine). Monochrome frontispiece illustration. 12mo. Boards a little rubbed and rounded at edges with some spotting. Lightly frayed around spine. Some mild signs of old water damage. Pencil inscription on front paste down endpaper, dated 1912. Marked & soiled on text block edge. Occasional spotting internally. Seller Inventory # 000175
