Add to basketThe Israeli art magazine Gazith - Art & Literary Journal was founded, edited and published by Gabriel Talphir (1901 - 1990), a poet, translator and art critic who devoted the magazine to the encouragement of the young and evolving Israeli culture with emphasis on the visual and plastic arts. The first issue of Gazith was published at the end of 1931; the publication of monthly issues continued regularly until late 1982. These five issues are early in the journal's run and have photos of people and places especially important during this beginning of the later Israeli state. Hebrew text. Mostly VG but one cover slightly spotted and another has ink writing blurred by dampstaining. Gazith published articles in art history, theater, architecture, music, painting and sculpting in Western countries as well as in South-East Asia, India and Japan. It also published short monographs of Israeli and Jewish artists, as well as stories, poems and updated coverage of art events in Israel.
