A series of 12 lectures by Sir John Simon [ 1816 - 1904 ] who as medical officer of health to the sewers commission of the City of London was one of the leading voices in improving public sanitation & health in the city. 'He was similarly well-respected as a lecturer in the relatively new science of pathology, and known for the thoroughness with which he kept abreast of continental work' (ODNB).
