A rare copy of this illustrated geological study . Pictorial title page with foldout coloured frontispiece of the geological ladder. Another title page with tipped in plate of fossilised Lepidodendron tree. The descent of the staircase on a foldout chart appears in the back of the book before the index. this has a repaired tear and a further small tear. Throughout the book are tipped in small coloured lithographs which are described in the preface as being " coloured from Nature, and executed on stone by Mr. Turner, Artist, Hatton Garden, and form perfect facsimiles, being produced with much skill and judgement". The pages in the book are clean and tight but the blue cloth boards are rubbed, worn , creased and marked . The cloth is split at the hinge and the inner hinge is cracked. In original condition with no attempt to repair or restore. Page edges gilt. More images available by request. Size - 168mm. x 110mm. (sm.12mo.) Pp. ix + 525 + erratum.
