A complete first edition and publisher's presentation copy of this insightful illustrated biography of the former British Prime Minister. First edition. Complete in two volumes. Publisher's presentation copy. "With Mr Murray's compliments" blind stamped to the title page of Volume I. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Each text is illustrated with a frontispiece, followed by three plates to Volume I and four plates to Volume II. Collated, complete. A historical biography of British politician George Canning, who held the position of Prime Minister from April 1827 up until his untimely death in August of the same year. Written by British Army officer and fellow politician Josceline Bagot and containing several previously unpublished letters. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Publisher's presentation copy. "With Mr Murray's compliments" blind stamped to the title page of Volume I. Previous owner's signature to the front paste down of each copy. Externally, very smart, notably faded along the spines, with slight bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth and a few marks. Internally, generally firmly bound, texts marginally more delicate towards the front and rear and also around the centre of Volume II, particularly to page 160. Bright and clean editions with more noticeable spotting and discolouration to the first and last few pages of each text. Very Good.…
