Naval Institute Press, MD. In 1775 George Washington took command of the Colonial forces outside of Boston. He quickly realized he needed naval support. But without a Continental Navy he was able to man eight schooners with Continental soldiers to harass the the British Navy and interfere with British supplies. Hearn, the noted Civil War historian, tells the story of the schooners which became the forerunner of the Continental Navy. Very good copy of the stated first edition in a very good dust jacket. 285 pages.
