The first edition of an important compilation of historical sources related to the German empire; edited by Marquard Freher (1565-1614), a German lawyer, historian, diplomat and statesman; two volumes (of three in total) are bound into one (the third and final volume was published as late as in 1611). Antiqua typeface; both title pages feature printer's device of Andreas Wechelus; other pages are decorated with beautiful headpieces, tailpieces and many large initials (mostly with floral motives); one page contains an illustration with a silver denar of Otto IV, Cologne (1198-1218). A complete, well-preserved copy. /// Parchment binding with raised bands, blind embossing and coloured edges (only remnants of cloth strings preserved); hardback, [20]+466+[22]+34+[2], [32]+442+[2]+[14] pp., 4° (22 x 34 cm), cover worn, corners bumped, parchment discoloured, rubbed and chipped, top edge slightly darkened, slightly starting hinge, endpapers yellowed, with tiny bookworm traces, front endpaper has small tear and old call number and ownership note written with pen, first title page worn and tanned, with water stain, tiny tears and two ownership stamps (printed over with black colour), pages yellowed, only rarely with tiny chips and tears, small ink stains, creases, smudges or (old) pen marginalia, condition: very good Book Language/s: Latin.
