Edgar Mowrer was an American journalist and renowned foreign correspondent working in Europe throughout the 1920s and 1930s. "Germany Puts the Clock Back" documents the collapse of German democracy and the rise of Hitler, and it won the Pulitzer Prize for its prescient reporting. Its publication angered Nazi officials to the point where Mowrer's friends believed he faced mortal danger.
