8vo. pp. viii, [2], 196. folding hand-coloured engraved map by F.Marianus. woocut title vignette. contemporary half calf (bit rubbed). Originally published in 1783, Sprengel's history of the American Revolutionary War was the first German book on the subject. A bibliography is given on pp, vi-viii. Sprengel wrote a number of books on America and translated the American Declaration of Independence into German. The map of British America and the United States with inset map of Newfoundland is based on a Faden map from 1783.
