12mo. [4], iv, 248 pp. First edition. In publisher's cloth with dust jacket. Spine a trifle dulled, but generally a bright binding; contemporary review pasted in at the rear pastedown with offsetting to the free endpaper opposite; dust jacket is somewhat edgeworn and sunned at the spine; price intact on the bottom of the front flap. This copy from the library of Elizabeth Gray Valentine Thomas of Richmond, VA with her name and date on the front pastedown. Light penciled underlining and marginal bracketing throughout. Tucker offers biographical sketches from King David, Catherine the Great, Poe, Stonewall Jackson, George Sand, etc.
