About this title

Synopsis

This is a collection by British and American teachers of thirteen classroom episodes-each several weeks or more in duration-that testify to the ability of students of all ages to involve themselves totally in a variety of language-rich learning contexts if they are encouraged and enabled to do so. The teachers here are "researchers" in the best sense of that word: they are constantly thinking and rethinking-researching-as they teach. The common thread that binds their experiences together is their willingness to pay attention to the language and experiences their students bring to class, as well as to the insights they take away.
