Octavo. 6 x 8.75 in. 110 pp. Black & white reproductions of illustrations by Porge Buck. Very good in original spiral bound paper-covered boards with some wear, toning, and a few stray pen marks, else this is a bright and sturdy edition of this important cookbook. Includes taped-in card inscription from previous owner whose niece, Porge, is responsible for the illustrations and "[getting the cookbook] together." Ruth L. Gaskins collected these recipes from her neighbors and family in Alexandria, Virginia as a fundraiser for "Alexandria's Negro Citizens" in 1968. The book was picked up by Simon & Schuster in the same year Gaskins released it. This is the self-published first edition.
