In quill on title page top "This first sheet is the proof copy only. The leaf torn out contained a dedication by permission to the late Queen Dowager Adelaide". Original blind-stamped cloth, paper printed spine title, yellow eps, unopened. Royal 8vo. pp. 408. Appendices, Indices. VG/No jacket, as issued/Ex-Lib. College library withdrawn bookplate and oval stamps to top right page corners are only markings. Toned and lightly edge chipped spine title, faint cover sunning, bumped corners, head fray, hinges starting, two straightened dogears, one top tear to a half opened section (pp. 319). Most sections unopened in appendices. Appendices: I. Miscellaneous notes; II. Remarkable persons buried in the cloister under Lincoln's Inn Chapel; III. Short notices of prelates and eminent divines who have been preachers to the Society of Lincoln's Inn; IV. Sermons preached at the Warburtonian Lecture in Lincoln's Inn Chapel which have been printed. Index to the four appendices starts pp. 357 and ends on pp. 408 with Le Clerc. As indicated, pp. 3-4 "is the leaf torn out" (neatly). Since all known copies end on pp. 408, one could assume that the index is the subject of the "never been completed" quill note.
