Reviews
Over 250 historic landmarks and sites are listed in this guide. The chapters are arranged alphabetically by state. An outline map of the state, featuring the locations of the sites, precedes each chapter. A brief historical background is provided for each site, as well as a description of it today, plus the hours of operations, fees, address, phone number, and driving directions to get there. This volume covers 100 more sites and 27 more states than Kent Ruth's Landmarks of the West ( LJ 12/15/86) but lacks the beauty of Ruth's prose. Because of the comprehensive coverage of the continental United States, this would be a worthwhile purchase.
