Beautiful photographs, maps, and descriptions of the fabled reef lights forming a 3,000-mile semicircle from Key West, Florida, to Corpus Christi, Texas.
The fabled reef lights of the Florida Keys are the first links of a chain of jewel-like beacons forming a 3,000-mile semicircle from Key West, Florida, to Corpus Christi, Texas. Both on and off the treacherous swamps, marshes, and barrier islands that line the shores of the Gulf of Mexico stand many of America's most beautiful, historic, and richly-storied lighthouses. Exposed to powerful gales and hurricanes and undercut by galloping erosion, they are also among our nation's most threatened coastal treasures. Gulf Coast Lighthouses pays tribute to these lifesaving beacons that stand on this stretch of constantly shifting landfalls and details the history, lore, and disasters they have witnessed and endured.
