First edition. Fenn, a UK writer born 1827(?), "was originally a landscape-painter, but became totally blind when thirty-five years of age, and thenceforth took to writing for magazines." - Allibone. "Mixed collection of short fiction, much criminous matter, little supernatural; only three ghost stories. Fenn's first collection; his later collections, AFTER SUNDOWN OR THE PALETTE AND THE PEN (1880), WOVEN IN DARKNESS: A MEDLEY OF STORIES, ESSAYS AND DREAMWORK (1885), and TWIXT THE LIGHTS; OR ODD TALES FOR ODD TIMES (1893), have higher fantasy content and are much scarcer.
