A twenty-sixth impression of the true first edition, with the number string: 30 29 28 27 26 at the bottom of the printer's page. Only "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" listed as 'also available', indicating a 1999 printing date. Because of the rising popularity of the Harry Potter books by this time, the second book in the series was even more rapidly reprinted than the first - hence the relatively high impression number. ***A near fine copy in pictorial colour illustrated boards. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. There is a no reading lean to the binding and the spine is tight. The colours of the book are beautifully bright, with no fading, even to the spine. Internally, the book is also near fine, with no inscriptions or annotations. No foxing. Pages clean. The paper stock is lightly tanned as usual. There is some straining to the page block gutter at the title page due to the cheap binding quality of these books (please see scans). ***In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £10.99 on the front flap. The dustwrapper is complete, with just light creasing to the extremities, mainly at the head and tail of the spine. No serious creases, chips or tears. Unusually, the colours to the spine of the dustwrapper are completely unfaded (please see scans). ***251 pages plus four advertisement pages at the back of the book. 206mm x 136mm. ***'The Worst Birthday --- Not for the first time, an argument had broken out over breakfast at number four, Privet Drive. Mr Vernon Dursley had been woken in the early hours of the morning by a loud, hooting noise from his nephew Harry's room.' (Quote taken from the first paragraph of the book) ***A twenty-sixth impression of the true first edition of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", in unusually near fine condition, in the original dustwrapper. Being such a popular children's book, copies of the early printings in reasonable condition (albeit with the above mentioned faults) are far from easy to find now. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…

Review
Chilling, malevolent voices whisper from the walls only to Harry, and it seems certain that his classmate Draco Malfoy is out to get him. Soon it's not just Harry who is worried about survival, as dreadful things begin to happen at Hogwarts. The mysteriously gleaming, foot-high words on the wall proclaim, "The Chamber of Secrets Has Been Opened. Enemies of the Heir, Beware." But what exactly does it mean? Harry, Hermione, and Ron do everything that is wizardly possible--including risking their own lives--to solve this 50-year-old, seemingly deadly mystery. This deliciously suspenseful novel is every bit as gripping, imaginative, and creepy as the first; familiar student concerns--fierce rivalry, blush-inducing crushes, pedantic professors--seamlessly intertwine with the bizarre, horrific, fantastical, or just plain funny. Once again, Rowling writes with a combination of wit, whimsy, and a touch of the macabre that will leave readers young and old desperate for the next installment. (Ages 9 and older) --Karin Snelson
