About this Item
BLOOMFIELD, Robert. HAZELWOOD-HALL: A VILLAGE DRAMA IN THREE ACTS. London: Baldwin, Cradock & Joy, 1823. 16mo., brown quarter-calf leather & marble boards (begins at title page & ends at last page of text). 72 pages. First Edition. Bloomfield (December 3, 1766- August 19, 1823) was an English labouring class poet whose work is appreciated in the context of other self-educated writers. He died in great poverty in 1823. In order to pay his debts and cover the funeral expenses, his collection of books and manuscripts, and his household effects, had to be auctioned. Also adding to the fundraising was the publication this title and, in the following year, of "The Remains of Robert Bloomfield", which included writing for children on which he had been working on for some years and a selection of his correspondence. Very good (binding quite nice; text clean & tight except for a little occasional foxing). $75.00. Seller Inventory # 2789
