About this Item
186 pp, 8 1/4" H. "(T)he tale of an instinctive artist, a young man driven by his intense desire to create, through visual images, a beauty that does not yet exist. There is magic in the sharply contrasting backgrounds: the remote reaches of the Canadian North and Paris and the French countryside. As fisherman, trapper, hunter, miner in a boom town, Pierre Cadorai leads, of necessity, a solitary life. Yet wherever he travels in pursuit of his vision, he finds friends: the old gold miner Gedeon, for instance, and Nina, the shy young girl in Fort Renunciation, and the Eskimo youth Orok, and Big Steve, the loyal, rough-hewn trapper. The generous offices of an old French missionary, Father Le Bonniec, eventually make it possible for Pierre to go to Europe. And in Paris there are the young painter Stanislas and the art teacher Augustin Meyrand, both of whom recognize the genius that shines through Pierre's naive technique. (A) study of the inner nature of a life dedicated purely to art." Light wrinkling at the top/bottom of the spine, very light edge wear, slight fading to the top edge of the book. Dust jacket has moderate browning on the spine, light browning on the flap-folds and top/bottom edges of the flaps, two edge tears, a very small closed tear on the spine, light edge wear/wrinkling - mainly at the top/bottom of the spine and flap-folds, now protected in a removable mylar sleeve.
