Three quarter leather covers with gold lettering on front cover which is slightly faded. Black leather corners exhibit heavy wear with chipping. Moderate chipping and bumping on edges. This book has been rebound with the original covers and a new spine. Gold lettering and decorative gold bands on spine are bright. Light soiling on spine. Moderate soiling and shelf wear on covers. Gold gilt page ends are bright. Text and the many b&w portraits and extended biographies of leading figures in Grand Rapids history are yellowed due to age. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Hinges are tight. Includes a appendix-history of Lowell, Michigan. Light chipping and small moisture stain on the bottom edge of the title page. Chapters detailing the Native American occupation of West Michigan, early settlements of the pioneers, the early charter, the variety of businesses and professions and much more.
