Revised edition. A Fair copy of this important text. 8vo., 280 pp., black & white photographs. Bound in publishers brown cloth with title on spine in gilt. Boards are moderately soiled and worn, spine is faded and is fraying at the top and bottom. Both interior hinges are cracked. First three and last three pages are present but detached. Pages are browned. Title page state 1889 copyright date, but preface is dated August 10, 1903. Midway Congregational Church, often called Midway Meeting House, was founded by Congregationalists in 1752 as they drifted down into Georgia from Dorchester, South Carolina. Many originally had come from the city of the same name in Massachusetts. From its founding, Midway Congregational Church was a place where white and black members worshipped. The 1792 structure includes upper galleries where black members sat during services. Seller Inventory # 24427
