THE HOME ARTIST a Complete Teach-Yourself Guide to Drawing, Watercolors and Oils

From the dust jacket:

"Many people would love to learn how to draw and paint, but don't know where to begin. The Home Artist is a unique introduction to the three major areas of the visual arts - drawing, watercolours and oils. Written by trained artists in a lively, teach-yourself format the book is not only ideal for someone attempting a picture for the first time, but also for those who have begun to experiment already, and wish to develop further. Each medium is fully discussed in all its aspects, including advice on choosing specialist materials, handling colour, composing a picture and improving observation.

The sections focus on three central projects - a self portrait in drawing, a landscape in watercolours and a still life in oils. The emphasis is on starting work as soon as possible, and then building upon the practical experience gained from the projects. At the same time, individual creativity and self expression are warmly encouraged.

The Home Artist is beautifully illustrated throughout with the work of famous artists and amateur students. These provide stimulating examples and pointers to a wide range of styles and traidtions, as well as an endless source of inspiration for subjects. Everyone who is interested in the visual arts will find The Home Artist a delight to read and a pleasure to use."
