First U.S. edition. Illustrated with tissue-protected frontispiece and 6 plates. Three pages of publishers catalogue at rear. Tyndall, a prominent 19th century physicist, made a number of discoveries in the realms of infrared radiation and the physical properties of air, and published more than a dozen science books, which brought state-of-the-art 19th century experimental physics to a wider audience. Decorative brick cloth boards with black design on front and rear board and gold lettering at spine. Very good or better with covers lightly scuffed, boards just visable at tips, a few black-ink splashes (possible production error), and name on endpaper. Seller Inventory # 52621
