Add to basketMY HALF CENTURY AS AN INVENTOR BY FREDERICK L. FULLER 1938 IBM COLLABORATOR. The Foreword to this book was written by Thomas J. Watson, President of IBM who wrote about his friend and collaborator, Frederick Lincoln Fuller, the following: My friend Frederick Lincoln Fuller is a member of that select company of men upon whom Providence has conferred inquiring minds and the additional boon of practicality. From his early boyhood Mr. Fuller has viewed life in terms of doing things better . This has meant doing them more easily. His practical mind has helped him patent nearly a hundred inventions which have been incorporated into machines which bring peace of mind through elimination of drudgery. I also found some brief biographical materials as part of the background of the holdings of Mr. Fuller s papers at the University of Texas, Austin, to wit: Frederick Lincoln Fuller, born April 11, 1861, in Norwich, Connecticut, was an inventor of cash registers and business machines. He founded the Union Cash Register Co. of Trenton, New Jersey, and in 1909 joined the National Cash Register Company of Dayton, Ohio. In 1917 he joined Remington Arms Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut, from which he retired in 1925. He left retirement in 1927 to join International Business Machines (IBM) at the request of Thomas Watson. There his major invention was the Bank Proofing Machine for expediting the flow and control of checks between banks. He was still employed by IBM when he died in 1943 in West Orange. So, I am most pleased to be able to offer you the following lovely book: My Half Century as an Inventor, by Frederick L. Fuller. This large hard cover book (8 x 10 ¾ inches, 241 pages) includes 70 pages of biography and the last 170+ pages which is a registry of the Patents Granted to Frederick L. Fuller, with a diagram and brief explanation of each. The book was apparently self-published by Mr. Fuller and is bound in handsome royal blue cloth hard covers with prominent gilt titles on cover and spine. The book is illustrated with a limited number of vintage b&w photos. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There are some minor abrasions to the finish on the lower right-hand corner of the book and a small white spot on the spine. There is a small ripple in the finish of the lower front cover and the gilt titles on the spine are a bit tarnished (whereas those on the front cover are bright and attractive). Inside, the book is unmarked and unblemished and the pages and photos are clean and bright, from cover to cover. The endpapers show some very slight acid staining from the binding glues. Both hinges are fully intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
