No date circa 1854 The first illustrated edition, the original being published in 1843 without illustrations.viii (2) 550 pp top edge gilt with hand colored frontispiece, 16 hand colored steel engravings, and numerous woodcut text illustrations by John Leech. The originally front and rear cloth covers and spine bound in at rear . Bound in a fine circa 1920 dark red crushed morocco the spine in 6 compartments with titles and ornate gilt decorative tooling.The binding in fine condition with no chips splits or marks.
