Fair; some rubbing/bumping/fraying to extremities, with a small tear to foot of spine; front cover and spine heavily soiled/stained; front hinge starting; else Fine. Pages are clean and bright, with no marks of ownership. The publisher's stamp and (new) price of $2 are on the front pastedown. No dust jacket. Presumed First Edition, in original decorated red cloth. Clifton Rodman Wooldridge (1854-1933), known as the "Sherlock Holmes of Chicago", was the first American police detective to publish a memoir (earlier detective memoirs concerned postal inspectors, railroad detectives, revenue agents, etc.), making this book the first of its genre.
