About this Item
Formerly Field Marshal Viscount Wolseley's copy with his armorial bookplate to the front pastedown and location note in pencil to the reverse of the ffep. Cloth covers with floral detailing to corners and coat of arms to centre front. Faint water marking to front board. Spine slightly offset. Edges scuffed and corners slightly turned. Rough cut page edges a little spotted. Later pencil notes by an earlier bookseller to reverse of ffep (stating the obvious) along with pencil note, as previously mentioned. Private circulation note tipped in, before title. A little spotting to title and contents pages but the majority of the text has only light marking. Errata slip present. Attractive card relating to the Hampshire Carabiniers Yeomanry, tipped in towards the rear of the book. Two plates: one being a portrait and the other of his grave. The main body of the text deals with his life and actions, generally based on his letters and with special emphasis on his time during the Boer War. The Appendix that follows this account, contains articles written by him for the army. Viscount Wolseley was a hugely influential Victorian soldier and later Lord. He is buried in St Paul's cathedral and there is a statue to him on Horse Guards Parade. Further information available on request. (Ud3). Seller Inventory # 003529
