Tall octavo - in fact, near quarto at 9 11/16" - buff cloth boards with black spine imprinting, buff endpapers, very thoroughly illustrated throughout with both color and black and white plates, and photographs; 976 pp. (iv + 972 ). A very strong Very Good, clean but for some cover soiling (scan); thin crack at front hinge, nonetheless sturdily bound; contents immaculate. Richard Sugden Library label at front pastedown, but no other library marking of any kind. Rather astonishing in its illustration and topical articles; many color plates - with a passel by Howard Pyle - and many black and white plates, as well. If you have a hardbound six-monthly from this era of Harper's you know what the "many" in "many illustrations" means. The photographs - such as those in "The Making of a Telescope" (the Mount Wilson Observatory) - are of magnificent quality for publications of that era. Every last illustration and photograph in these 972 pages is eminently frame-worthy - but don't ever do that. See scans of contents pages for the articles herein.
