About this Item

Description:

151 x 226mm; pp. 448 (stated), i.e. half-title, title, [4 leaves], 431, [2 leaves]. SCARCE US PROOF COPY OF THE THIRD HARRY POTTER BOOK. The most unusual of the American Harry Potter 'Advance Reader's Copies' ('ARC's; though here called 'Advance Reader's Edition'). The first two US ARCs in the Potter series feature the full cover art by Mary GrandPré, but this ARC is in distinctive Harlequin-patterned wraps. The reason is stated on the rear cover: "Due to unprecedented demand for this book, we have moved the publication date up a full year. (We understand, we couldn t wait to read it either!) Accordingly, we have rushed to bring this Advance Reader's Edition to you as quickly as possible. Please rest assured that the final book will be as elegantly produced as each of the previous two volumes, and decorated with the delightful artwork of Mary GrandPré." This is especially notable as the American publisher Levine had taken extra pride in the production of the ARCs of Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, which both feature illustrated wraps - a feature unusual in proof/ARC volumes. The rear cover of this Azkaban ARC includes information on the print-run and extensive marketing strategy for the book. By the time of Azkaban the Potter series had become a global phenomenon and this is evident in the physical form of this volume. Azkaban is generally regarded as the best of the Potter books (and certainly the best of the Potter films). Very good condition: light wear to the edges of the wraps; one crease to the cover; edges of the page block slightly handled. Errington AA4(c). Seller Inventory # 2505327641

Paperback. Condition: Used. Ah, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," a book that has captivated millions, and a second-hand copy that has seen more action than most of us in our prime. Published in 1999 by Bloomsbury, this splendid tome presents a world where owls deliver mail, wands are more common than umbrellas, and the only thing more elusive than a decent cup of tea is a fully-fledged wizard on a broomstick. Undoubtedly, this is the third installment in a series that has transformed legions of readers into spell-casting aficionados, but don?t worry, it?s still perfectly acceptable to be enchanted by the story even if you can?t pronounce ?Quidditch.? This copy is slightly dog-eared and so its 5p cheaper than the other copy currently on the site. As you crack open the musty cover, you?ll be greeted not only by the familiar scent of nostalgia but also the stories of a boy who just can?t catch a break. Imagine navigating the treacherous halls of Hogwarts while dodging the emotional baggage of parental abandonment, a killer on the loose, and the general awkwardness of teenage hormones ? all while sporting a lightning bolt scar that seems to attract trouble like moths to a flame. Yes, Harry, it?s a tough gig, but isn?t that what makes us all relatable? The book?s sheer ability to make us root for a bespectacled teenager who is constantly saved by his friends is perhaps its most magical feat. In this particular episode, we?re introduced to a rather intriguing character: Sirius Black, the most wanted (and misunderstood) wizard in the magical realm. Readers are left to ponder if he?s the villain we all dread or just another poor soul embroiled in a ridiculously complicated family saga. And let?s not forget about the Dementors, who serve as a beautifully depressing metaphor for mental health issues, reminding us that sometimes happiness is the hardest spell to cast. In a world where broomsticks and spells exist, how does one manage to feel such profound sadness? Ah, the irony! Rowling weaves a tapestry that stitches together friendship, loyalty, and that nagging sense of impending doom. It?s a reminder that life is rarely as simple as a magic wand can make it. And while many will be enchanted by the epic quests and whimsical creatures, there?s a certain satisfaction in knowing that even wizards have to deal with the emotional baggage of adulthood ? or at least the adolescent version of it. As you turn the pages, you might find yourself contemplating the larger questions: Is there any point to wizardry if you can?t even get a decent cup of tea? And what?s the deal with house-elves? Do they get paid, or is it all just a form of magical indentured servitude? One can only hope that these questions will be answered in the subsequent installments, or perhaps left forever in the realm of fan theories and pub debates. Condition: This used copy has been lovingly thumbed through by countless fingers, each imprint a reminder of the reader?s own journey through the ups and downs of the wizarding world. The cover shows signs of wear that say, ?I?ve been cherished? rather than ?I?ve been forgotten.? With dog-eared pages that have seen better days and the occasional coffee ring marking the existential crisis of a late-night reading session, this book is less a pristine collector?s item and more of a well-weathered companion ready to take you back to a simpler, more whimsical time. So, if you fancy yourself a wizard with a penchant for nostalgia, embark on this journey once more with a copy steeped in history and a little bit of grime. After all, a book is only as good as the stories it carries, and who doesn?t want to share a ride on the Hogwarts Express with a well-loved edition? Make it yours today from Crappy Old Books, where we believe every second-hand tale deserves another reader?s embrace. In conclusion, if you?re in the market for a book that offers a delightful blend of magic, moral dilemmas, and the bittersweet nature of growing up, look no further. "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" isn?t just a tale about a boy wizard; it?s an exploration of life?s complexities wrapped in a shiny cover of whimsy. Grab this treasure before it?s gone, and remember: in the world of Hogwarts, not everything is as it seems! THIS BOOK BEARS THE CRAPPY OLD BOOKS STAMP. IF THAT IS UNDESIRABLE PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS. Paperback. Condition: Used. Ah, ?Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,? a delightful tome that dares to explore the glamorous world of wizards, where the most pressing issues are not the trials of adolescence, but whether one?s Patronus is a particularly fetching deer or a rather disgruntled otter. Published in the golden year of 1999, it marks the point at which children around the globe began to think that owls are just about the best delivery system since the invention of sliced bread?though we suspect they might have some competition there from the local pizza joint. In this riveting installment of Harry?s misadventures at Hogwarts, our hero is beset by the looming spectre of a prisoner who has escaped from the rather impenetrable fortress of Azkaban. One can only wonder if they had a particularly difficult lunch hour that day or simply decided to take a brisk stroll through the dark arts. With the plot thickening like an over-ambitious soufflé, Harry finds himself entangled in a web of secrets, time-turners, and the inexplicable ability to conjure up a sense of urgency that rivals your Wi-Fi connection on a Sunday afternoon. And let?s not forget our beloved trio: Harry, Hermione, and Ron, who navigate the fierce challenges of adolescence while simultaneously trying not to be devoured by Dementors (who, we can only speculate, were actually just having a bad day). This book is a veritable buffet of fantastical beasts, daring escapades, and the occasional existential crisis, all wrapped up in the charming British wit we?ve come to expect from Ms. Rowling. It?s as if she?s taken a scone, filled it with jam and cream, and sprinkled in enough magical mishaps to make it a bestseller. As you flip through the pages, you might notice that the character development is as juicy as a ripe tomato. We?ve got new faces who are as eccentric as a cat wearing a bowler hat, including Sirius Black, who, while being Harry?s godfather, also possesses the kind of mysterious allure typically reserved for late-night infomercial hosts. And then there?s Professor Lupin, who might just steal your heart?if only he can keep his furry little secret under wraps. It?s a wonderful mix of relatable struggles and utterly fantastical elements, as if your average school play had suddenly become a Broadway hit complete with pyrotechnics. Furthermore, one cannot ignore the book?s various philosophical undercurrents. It hints at the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and the occasional foray into the darker side of the human (or wizarding) experience. It raises questions that could keep a room full of philosophers debating until the cows come home. Perhaps that?s why it?s become a cultural touchstone, providing material for countless discussions over tea and biscuits, where one could argue whether Hagrid is the best character or merely a glorified babysitter for magical creatures. Condition: This particular volume has seen its fair share of adventures?much like Harry himself. The cover bears the marks of previous readers who perhaps were not as gentle as one ought to be with such a beloved story. There are dog-eared pages, the scent of coffee still lingering faintly (one can only guess how it got there), and a few scribbles in the margins that might give you insights into the deeper existential dilemmas faced by the reader. True book lovers will appreciate these battle scars as badges of honour, a testament to the book?s journey through time and hands. In summary, ?Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban? is a whimsically chaotic blend of magic, mystery, and the occasional awkward teenage moment, making it a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good laugh, a bit of tension, and the very real possibility of encountering a werewolf or two. So, why not take a chance on this second-hand treasure? You might just find yourself spellbound?albeit slightly confused by the odd coffee stain. After all, it?s sold by Crappy Old Books, where the charm and quirkiness of old tales await you like a warm cuppa on a chilly afternoon. THIS BOOK BEARS THE CRAPPY OLD BOOKS STAMP.
