1st Edition. 24pp. Quarto. Original illustrated wrappers. Staple bound. Two small (largest approximately 0.25" X 0.5") chips to upper edge of wrapper, not affecting images or text. Two slightly larger (largest approximately 2" X 0.5") chips to edges rear wrapper. Interally clean. The Gorey illustration is bright and unfaded. very good This issue of the Harvard Advocate marks the first published illustration of Edward Gorey, the American illustrator and author famed for his striking, macabre style. The cover illustration features two dapper men tossing sticks at smiling heads mounted on pikes. Gorey's first book, the Unstrung Harp, did not appear until three years after this illustration. Gorey went on to write over 100 books, many for children. The issue also contains poems by Francis O'Hara, Gorey's Harvard room mate. Seller Inventory # 135249
