The Health & Strength magazine was one of the most influential early fitness and bodybuilding publications in the world — and a key part of British physical culture history.First published in 1894, it became the world’s longest-running fitness magazine, lasting well into the 1980s. "Official organ of the Health and Strength League." The League was formed in Britain in 1906 as a "physical culture" / fitness organization. It published Health & Strength magazine, organized physique contests, and was instrumental in the founding of NABBA (National Amateur Body-Builders’ Association) around 1950. In 1948, the League organised the first "Mr Universe" event, which later transitioned into the NABBA Mr Universe contests.
