1909 FIRST PRINTING of First USA Edition. Two volumes. Original blue cloth with silver lettering front and spine, silver decorations front covers and spines. Very bright and clean covers with silver not rubbed (rare as such). Rear inside hinge of volume I expertly repaired with japanese tissue, and front and rear inside hinges of volume II expertly repaired with japanese tissue (good work). No other repairs or modifications. Small 5mm light spot near top of front cover of volume II. Some foxing to bottom edge text block volume I. No foxing on pages. Clean bright pages. Old owner bookplate on front pastedown of each volume otherwise no owner marks or writing on any pages. Solid bindings. One of the best condition sets we have encountered. The volumes measure 257mm tall x 171mm. vol I: 365 + [1] pages, 76 b/w & 6 color plates, 10 diagrams; vol II: 450 +[1] pages, 63 b/w & 6 color plates, 33 b/w text ills, 1 folding panorama (in rear pocket), 3 folding maps (in rear pocket), index.
