Add to basketSir Henry Rider Haggard, KBE (22 June 1856 14 May 1925) was an English writer of adventure novels set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and a founder of the Lost World literary genre. He was also involved in agricultural reform around the British Empire. His stories, situated at the lighter end of Victorian literature, continue to be popular and influential. Haggard wrote "Heart of the World" in 1895 and it tells of the search for a secret and hidden Mayan civilization living in a long lost city filled with gold and jewels! It is also a love story of a couple willing to give up everything for true love and it is a melodramatic adventure story of good against evil. Here is a very pleasing Very Good copy of the UK first edition. Overall the blue cloth beveled boards are clean and undamaged. The spine is sunned to brown, although the gilt lettering is clear and strong. With the exception of a quarter inch split to the bottom of the spine, the spine ends are slightly wrinkled but otherwise undamaged. Inside the binding is tight and uncracked. Other than an almost invisible signature to the top of the ffep, there are no ownership markings of any kind. Bound in to the rear of the volume is a 24-page publisher's catalogue. Overall a very attractive copy indeed.
