The first printing in French, translated by Marcel Duhamel. This is one of 1,000 numbered copies printed on Alfa paper. The dramatic story of Harry Morgan, an honest man who is forced into running contraband between Cuba and Key West as a means of keeping his crumbling family financially afloat. Written sporadically between 1935 and 1937, and revised as Hemingway traveled back and forth from Spain during the Spanish Civil War, this novel served as the basis for the 1944 Howard Hawks film starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
