I have been struggling for many years with the early Herbert Jenkins reprints. Mcilvaine and others have accurately described the first editions with popular editions supplied by copyright libraries and then there is a gap ,in some cases jumping to a twelth printing. Mcilvaine based her bibliography which is excellent on the James Heinemann and Charles Gould collections with additions from others ,but there was not much information on the early reprints ,so over the last twenty years I have endeavoured to simplify identification to a point where even I can understand . It is about 98% complete but there are still some gaps which may never be filled . I have tried to make sense of how Herbert Jenkins could jump from the popular edition to the twelth printing. I was inclined to believe initially that there may have been some jumping of printings to promote sales as he was a master of self promotion but I slowly began to find that each popular edition and in some cases there are as many as eight ,and cloth variant was counted as a printing .I may be completely out of my mind but I have many of them and it makes some sense to me .Its becoming more relevant as many of the early firsts are now becoming difficult to find or cost the price of a small house when having a wrapper .So the next level is having a first with a second wrapper or early printings and that's where this bibliography can be helpful. I have only covered the books not the wrappers as its too confusing .There has been so much mixing and matching that you need to be a Philadelphia lawyer to work it all out.
