A collection of first edition titles by English writer and architectural historian James Lees-Milne.Lees-Milne was a long-time employee of the National Trust, and an expert on country houses.Each volume is in its original binding and dust wrapper, volume 2 dust wrapper being unclipped.Volume 1 features its original, charmingly illustrated dust wrapper, clipped.Volume 3 features a monochrome frontispiece, and illustrated endpapers.Volume 4 features a colour frontispiece and 32 double-sided unlisted monochrome plates, and 2 single-sided colour plates. No other collation record available.Volume 4 also features a letter dated May 25th, 1951, from the publisher to the Literary Editor of the Higher Education Journal, requesting a review of the included title, including handwritten instructions regarding the suggested word length of the review. Bound in original cloth. In original clipped dust wrappers. Externally, in lovely condition. Mild bumping to extremities. Small closed tear to cloth at vol4 rear joint. Dust wrappers externally very smart. Mild chipping to dust wrapper extremities. The odd marks to covers. Light spotting to vol4 dust wrapper reverse. Vol4 dust wrapper fly leaves removed and replaced with blank paper. Price sticker to vol1 front fly leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Occasional spotting to top edges. Near Fine.
